The great architect, Spyridon Tzetzes from Patras, Greece, was the designer, researcher and supervisor in the project, that the Mayor of Patras Athanasios Kanakaris - Roufos instructing to him: “Agora Argyris”. The "Great Market", as it was called, it was built from 1881 to 1883 and served many shops and handmade product artisans until 1920 that it stopped functioning. On the gate, with the Attic decoration appeared the inscription with gold letters: MADE BY MAYOR ROUFOS. It met great glories, and crowds flocked daily for shopping. Hikers and tourists of that era did not fail to visit it.

A few years ago, the restoration and renovation started and in the year 2010 it was delivered to the Municipality of Patras. In its current form, “Agora Argyris” can host exhibitions, seminars, presentations and many cultural and artistic events.

The Exhibition "Patraphilex 2010" will be hosted at the premises of the “Agora” from 6-14 November and we believe it is the best place for such an important philatelic event.

The Pan-Hellenic Philatelic Exhibition “Patraphilex 2010” which is organized by the Philatelic Society of Patras, it will be under the auspices of the Greek Philatelic Federation. Federation’s observer will be Ioakim Chalvatzidopoylos.

It has the support of the Prefecture of Achaia and the Greek Post Office.

The aid of the Prefecture of Achaia was expressed openly by the Prefect, Mr. D. Katsikopoulos at a meeting he had with the Vice President of the Philatelic Society of Patras, Mr. K. Hatzis and the man in charge of the exceptional collection of the “Spungen Foundation ", Mr. Daniel Spungen on February 8, 2010 in Patras.

The Philatelic Society of Patras is pleased to announce the organisation of the Pan-Hellenic Philatelic Exhibition to be held in Patras from 6th to 14th November 2010, under the patronage of the Hellenic Philatelic Federation, with the name “Patraphilex 2010”.

The exhibition will be hosted in the “Aigli” convention hall, in the city of Patras.

Among others, the exhibition will have the honour to host the unique and impressive exhibits of the “Spungen” Foundation which is related to World War II Holocaust. Danny Spungen, who is in charge of the world’s largest collection of documents and postal history concerning the period between 1940-45, including all those who suffered under the Nazi regime in various concentration camps, has most willingly accepted our invitation. This will be the first time ever for such a collection to cross the United States borders.

Participation in the Competitive Classes is open to collectors who are members of philatelic societies in Greece affiliated to the Hellenic Philatelic Federation, as well as to members of philatelic societies of abroad affiliated to FIP or FEPA member Federations. The exhibition will hold about 300 frames from almost all the classes.

Further details for the Exhibition will be promptly announced at the exhibition web site www.fepatras.gr/patraphilex, through Press Releases and in the "Lighthouse" journal. The philatelist that they are willing to participate, they have to fill up the application and mail it electronically, by fax or by post, to the following (Deadline for submitting applications: 5 September 2010):
